Babble-On Goodbye

Dear friends,

It’s with very heavy hearts that we must inform you that as of August 15th, 2014 Babble-On Recording, for all intents and purposes… will be no more.

We’ve had 15 long, profitable and creatively rewarding years atop our Plymouth Building perch in downtown Minneapolis. We’ve won numerous awards, worked with countless celebrities, done ADR for major films, recorded around the world, and best of all – we got to know you. Sit with you. Work with you. Laugh and kvetch with you. One could not have asked for more.  And, we graciously thank you for trusting us with your projects and ideas.

So, what happened?  The Plymouth Building will be turned into a luxury hotel.  Since rumors started about the sale of the building, we’ve explored a number of different options to relocate Babble-On, while exhausting all our legal options to avoid forced eviction, or failing that – get financial compensation, etc.

We’re grateful to our industry colleagues who’ve extended themselves to try to help us make something work.  But, no one thing presented itself as the perfect solution that would allow us to “keep the band together” – which was our sincere hope.  Certainly not for lack of effort.  We owe those who’ve approached us with offers and ideas a big thank you.

Unfortunately, after Friday, August 15, 2014 we’ll no longer be doing sessions at Babble-On, although we’ll be around the last two weeks of August packing up.  And, after August 29th, the Babble-On foursome (Andre, Carol, Greg and John) will disband.  While we don’t know where any of us will land, we hope that you’ll search out Greg and John and continue to work with them.  They have our full support, friendship and whatever assistance we can provide. Andre hopes to be in a bonafide studio again, but that will need to be addressed at a later date, after helping his aging parents out East get through a transitional time of their own.

Know for sure that in the Babble-On way, we are committed to easing the transition for Greg, John, and our clients.  We’ll be monitoring phone calls and emails so that clients are not left hanging.  We’ll be maintaining the session archives should you need any elements from them. And, we’ll be happy to deliver them to a new location for you if you would like us to do so.

We’ll definitely keep you apprised of any new developments as they arise for any and all of us here as we all explore our options for the future.

We need to thank some very important people for helping us all these years:  Greg and John – there are no words, sounds or pictures to convey the loss we feel, but we are thankful beyond measure for the many things you have taught us along the way. We are so much the better for it.  Johnny Hagen, Amelia Ruth, Al Flom, Martin Thomas, Becky Carlson and Molly Augustin – thank you for all your contributions and sacrifices.  There are many others to thank but the list is too long.  So, please accept our Academy Awards-style blanket “thank you.”

And, you – yes you who is reading this.  Thanks for sharing who you are with us.  If there were to be further opportunities, we would certainly welcome them.

Alexander Graham Bell said:

“As one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”

Here’s to focusing on whatever doors open before us all.
